For the cake topper, you can’t beat a cutout of the rock climbers themselves! The cute hand holds placed around the cake are great replicas. Love the rock decorations around the cake base too.
This cute rock climber birthday cake is personalized with the “cloud nine” at the top. Also, a fun touch is that the birthday girl’s name is spelled out with the rope – love it!

Cookies for climbers!
Rock climbing cookies are also fun for the party. Make your favorite sugar cookie recipe – and some gray icing and let the fun begin. You can find some edible rocks (if you don’t have a hand hold mold) and create some spectacular cookies for the party.
Square cookie cutters make the perfect cookie template for this artistic display of rock climbers in action.
For the artistically challenged, these stick figures (you can use food coloring pens) may be a bit easier to decorate for your birthday party cookies. The rock climbing hand holds appear to be dollops of colored icing.
These climber cupcakes are also a fun addition to the party. Head on over to blondieandbrownies for the “how to”.
Rock climbing gyms – get this party started
If you live near a climbing gym, check out the birthday party packages and let the gym handle the work – and work with the kids to get them climbing safely. This is a fun option for a large group – and the group rates usually include a party room for cake and presents afterwards.
Bouldering is also a great way to get the kids together for a fun time. Bouldering lets the kids move a little more freely as they can climb safely without ropes.
DIY rock climbing walls
An outdoor rock climbing set up is perfect for small parties. If you don’t have a wall set up, you can add these handholds to sturdy outdoor playground equipment to set up a small climbing station. You can also get “real rock” hand holds for a different look. Don’t forget the safety mats!
You can check out the tutorial below from “Bob” who likes to make stuff – and is making a climbing wall!

No rock wall? No problem!
If you have a tree in your yard, you can set up a “climbing tree” in no time. Just attach these colorful climbing holds to the tree – easy to install and easy to remove. Designed for older kids, this would make a fun alternative to a rock wall. Best of all, these hand holds don’t harm the trees!
Or you could set up some stepping stones in your backyard for the younger kids. These are fun and safe for the kiddos and feel soft and squishy on their bare feet. Traction grips on the bottom help keep the stones for slipping. It’s also good for their balancing! Plus, once the party is over, the birthday boy or girl can reuse in their own room or playroom.
