Alice in Wonderland is most definitely one of my favorite books. When I first opened the book as a little girl, I remember how quickly I “fell into the rabbit hole” and couldn’t stop reading. It was so easy to conjure up the characters in my mind: Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the chesire cat … and so many more. That’s why I love this theme for birthday parties (or baby showers). The characters, colors and quotes make this perfect for your daughter or son’s birthday.
“Would you tell me, please,
which way I ought to go from here?”
Alice in wonderland themed cakes
Let’s start with two of the most wonderful Alice in Wonderland themed cakes! While these may be a little ambitious for a child’s birthday party, they are simply too amazing not to share.
First up is a beautiful 3-layer cake with stripes, flowers and wonderful Alice details on the topper. Perched on the top, a gold and white striped mad hatter’s top hat shares the spotlight with soft pink roses and a few feathers. In addition, the gold stop watch, dangling from the top, stands out against the pastel white and pink watercolors while the middle tier showcases beautiful watercolor flowers. The bottom has bold black and white stripes that balances the design. You can find this – and hundreds more beautiful cakes – at Starbird Bakehouse.
Alice themed cake pops
So, if you’re not a “master baker” or sophisticated cake designer, you can order easy and fun Alice themed cake pops on line. With a variety of designs and flavors, these are sure to be a hit at the party.
Alice themed cookies & treats!
The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts,
All on a summer day:
The Knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts,
And took them quite away!’
Too sweet to eat? These Alice themed cookies, tartlets and cupcakes are so colorful and the details are amazing. I did find a recipe for no fail sugar cookies to create the Alice in Wonderland characters which calls for “wafer paper sets”. There are so many designs available on line – here’s one with the old fashioned original Alice characters. And here’s a great recipe for raspberry white chocolate shortbread with the hearts shown below. You can also find hundreds of Alice in Wonderland cookie cutters. Best of all, many of these offer free shipping!
Drink me …
“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone, “so I can’t take more.”
“You mean you can’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”
“Nobody asked your opinion,” said Alice.”
While Alice’s Drink Me potion had a flavor of cherry tart, custard, pineapple, roast turkey, toffee, and hot buttered toast, all mixed up, your drinks may be a little less complicated. Maybe a pink lemonade or a caffeine free pomegranate raspberry tea would be a little easier. No matter what you’re serving, you can dress up the drinks with fancy tea cups or potion bottles. Just add the “Drink me” tags. And, you can easily DIY the drink tags too! It’s simple with a word document, brown kraft paper, a hole punch and some ribbon.
Here’s a fun “tea party” FREE download you can add to for a super cute party decoration. Download is available as 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 courtesy of the cottage market.

“Well that was the silliest tea party I ever went to!
I am never going back there again!”
A sweet design for Alice in Wonderland Birthday invitations. This invitation features a colorful oval with all Alice details: stop watch, tea cups, key, drink me tags and more. What’s more, I love the soft pastels and watercolor features on this design.

Here’s a bit more sophisticated Alice theme for an older girl’s party. The drawings are so simple and so cute!
A bright pink and blue Mad Hatter’s Tea Party design with the Alice details in black silhouette surrounding the invitation details. As a result, this bold design would be perfect for a “tea party” birthday.
